The brief was simple: create trousers that offered flexibility and comfort while maintaining a smart, tailored appearance. We didn’t want visible elastic waistbands or anything that looked casual. The comfort needed to remain completely invisible. 

After extensive research and development, our team proposed a solution for our manufacturing partners to explore. The idea was to integrate elastic into the waistband while keeping it entirely hidden from view. This would allow the waistband to flex and move naturally with the wearer without compromising the smart appearance of traditional trousers. 

That concept became the foundation of Expand A Band, Carabou’s answer to smarter, more comfortable workwear.

Nine Months of Development 

Turning the idea into reality took time, testing, and careful refinement. 

The Expand-A-Band system underwent a nine-month development process, with our team working closely alongside factories to perfect the design. Multiple prototypes were created and tested to ensure the right balance of comfort, stretch, durability, and appearance. 

Every detail mattered. From selecting the correct materials to determining the ideal amount of flexibility, the goal remained the same: create trousers that looked professional while remaining comfortable throughout an entire working day. 

The result was a smarter take on elastic waist pants for men, designed specifically for modern professional life.

From One Product Line to Ten Core Collections 

Expand-A-Band launched with a single product line. 

The response from customers was immediate and overwhelmingly positive. Men quickly recognised the benefits of added comfort without sacrificing the smart appearance expected in professional settings.

As demand grew, so did the range.
